…Defection issue was not debated
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has on Monday cleared the air on the meeting he had with the embattled Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
While addressing questions from journalists at the State House in Port Harcourt on Monday, Wike disclosed that the meeting he had with Obaseki has nothing to do with defection.
It will be recalled that Obaseki visited Wike in Port Harcourt on Sunday while both had a closed door meeting fuelling speculations that Obaseki was planning to defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the governorship election in Edo State.

However, Wike condemned the Nigerian Governors’ Forum for remaining silent on the disqualification of Obaseki from participating in the APC primaries slated for June 22. He faulted the Forum as supporting the agenda of the ruling party despite being a national multi-party group.
Wike also hinted that Obaseki will be welcomed to PDP if he decides to join, adding that it is the decision of the Edo State Chapter of the main opposition party to choose who becomes its governorship candidate.
