…Unity Bank calls government agencies to investigate
Unity Bank PLC has refuted the claims by a whistleblower that the Nigerian Ports Authority operated a secret account totaling $1 billion with it.
This was brought to the attention of the public in an official statement issued out by the bank on Tuesday.
The financial institution stated the information is untrue, unfounded and lacks merit, as it faults the whistleblower petitioning President Muhammadu Buhari.
“As a responsible organization conducting its business with utmost professionalism and due regard for all extant regulatory and statutory requirements, the Bank’s making relationship with the NPA is without any blemish.
“We advise the general public to ignore the entirety of the spurious report, which apparently was concocted deliberately for mischief.” The statement said.
The bank also disclosed its confidence that the appropriate apparatus of government should investigate the alleged whistle blower’s claim, to ascertain its untruthfulness before considering the circumstances.
The bank therefore restated its determination and focus to ensuring provision of transparent banking services to its customers with the ambit of the law and duty of confidentiality.
