The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the outing of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Anambra State on Thursday as testament of the party’s grip in the Southeast. The party said the mammoth crowd which attended the presidential campaign rally at the Alex Ekwueme Square was indicative of Atiku’s acceptance in the region. The deputy director of media and publicity for Atiku-Okowa campaign, Mr. Uloka Chukwubuikem, in a statement believes that Atiku remains the only credible candidate for the 2023 election. He noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the APC will not stand, adding that the APC has impoverished Nigeria and put Nigerians in poverty.

Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, has expressed platitudes to President Muhammadu Buhari for completing the second Niger Bridge. The national secretary of the group, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, said the call for the bridge had become urgent after the civil war. Note that the first Niger Bridge was constructed in 1965, just before the civil war. He said apart from the heavy traffic lock jam on the bridge, there was already fear that the bridge might collapse due to exceed load. The Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, had on Thursday, opened the Bridge to traffic from December 15 to January 15, 2013 to ease traffic during the Xmas holiday.

The United States President, Joe Biden, has thrown his support behind the electoral institutions in Africa. The US president said the United States is all in for and with Africa. Biden said this at the ongoing US-Africa summit held at Washington DC, US. The summit is to deepen foreign relations between the United States and African countries. Biden while announcing $100 million for security, also said the United States would invest $75 million to strengthen electoral authorities and civil society in Africa. Earlier, Nigeria Today reported that the POTUS met with six African leaders holding election next year including Nigeria and DRC to discuss potentials for a free and fair elections.
