…Minister was walked out of the meeting
The Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Mr. Festus Keyamo on Tuesday was walked out the meeting by some joint members of the National Assembly.
The minister was invited by the Senate to come and enlighten them on the Special Public Works Programme where 774,000 persons would be employed by the Federal Government under the National Directorate Employment (NDE).
The meeting which took place at the National Assembly in Abuja, had members of both the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Labour in attendance, as they enquired on the process of selecting a 20-man committee from each state of the meeting.
However, the raucous session ensued from the heated argument between the committee members and the Minister over who should spearhead the programme which was to be domiciled by the NDE.
This aggravated into the lawmakers requesting the notable lawyer to go into a closed-door meeting with them, but he maintained that the further deliberations be held in the presence of the press.
Keyamo declined when the lawmakers asked him to apologise, and this further worsened the matter as they showed him the exit.
Recall it was barely 24 hours the minister inaugurated the 20-member committees in the states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on virtual platforms.
