Speaker welcome lawmakers who dump PDP for ruling party
Two members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday decamped from Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers are Ephraim Nwuzi, representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in Rivers State and David Abel from Gashaka/Kurmi/Sardauna Federal Constituency in Taraba State.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this while reading letters of their defection on the floor of the house during plenary.

Reacting to their defection, the Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu; Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu; and leader of the PDP caucus, Kingsley Chinda, demanded that their seats be declared vacant.
Gbajabiamila, however, faulted the point of order raised by the opposition leaders, described them instead as hypocrites, adding that PDP failed to lay the foundation of sanctioning illegal defections while in power.
