…Akpata polled 9,891 votes to defeat two senior lawyers
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has conducted its national elections on Wednesday and Thursday, and Mr. Olumide Akpata emerged the 30th President of the NBA.
Mr. Tawo E. Tawo, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA) declared the results of the elections.
Akpata, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law, (NBA-SBI) secured 9,891 votes to defeat Mr. Dele Adesina and Dr. Babatunde Ajibade who polled 4,328 and 3,982 votes respectively.
This year 2020 NBA elections began on Wednesday (July 29) by 11:00 am and ended by 11:00 pm on Thursday (July 30) having 29,635 accredited voters but 18,256 ballots cast.
Other elected offices occupied via elections were NBA First Vice President won by Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins with 6,010 votes; NBA Second Vice President won by Mr. Adeyemo Kazeem with 8,794 votes; NBA General Secretary won by Mrs. Joyce Oduah with 8,979 votes and NBA Assistant General Secretary won by Mrs. Uchenna Nwadialo with 7,314 votes.

Also, Mrs. Mercy Agada and Mr. Nnamdi Anagor were elected opposed as the NBA Treasurer and Financial Secretary respectively. Mr. Olukunle Edun was elected the NBA Welfare Sectretary with 9,001 votes, Dr. Rapulu Nduka emerged the NBA Publicity Secretary polling 11,964 votes and Mr. Naza Afam won NBA Assistant Publicity Secretary with 6,490 votes.
While addressing the NBA members, Akpata appreciated them for electing him the President and assured them to establish a transformational leadership with his administration.
Akpata is a graduate of Law from the University of Benin. He is a Senior Partner at Templars, a leading commercial law firm. He is expected to direct the NBA affairs in the next two years.
