Okonjo-Iweala beat South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee to emerge the DG
She got the job. Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged the concensus candidate for the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) iob.
Okonjo-Iweala received more backing than her only challenger, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee, by a wide margin, according to a Thisday reports, citing Arise News TV.

Despite being the concensus choice, she has yet to be named the substantive DG because the US has withheld its support.
It is expected that there could be voting in the coming weeks in line with the WTO’s protocol for the election of a new DG. The outcome of that process is expected to be announced by November 9.
