Nigerian Air Force alpha jet loses contact from radar
A Nigerian Air force fighter jet on a routine mission in Borno state in the North-eastern part of the country has been reported to have gone missing from the radar with its whereabouts still unknown.
According to the statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet the aircraft on a routine mission to support troops on theatre operation lost contact on Wednesday.
Gabkwet said the plane disappeared “while on an interdiction mission in support of ground troops. The mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East.

“The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021.”
Mr Gabkwet added, “Details of the whereabout of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.” He said.
