A group of Northern leaders led by Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have adopted the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as their candidate of choice in the 2023 general elections in Nigeria. The group operating under the aegis of the Northern Leaders Technical Criteria Committee, NLTCC, adopted Atiku as their preferred candidate at a meeting held in Abuja on Friday night. The group said PDP remains the only party with the right principles to lift Nigeria out of the economic quagmire the All Progressive Congress, APC, haS plunged it into. The Dogara-led group further stated that they believe only the PDP has the structure to win the 2023 presidential election. The report which was signed by the committee’s chairman, Hon. Mohammed Umara Kumalia and secretary, Barrister Nunge Mele, SAN, was read by the former deputy governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba.

Nigeria has made history as the first African country to launch a robotic humanoid. On Friday, Nigeria launched Omeife, africa’s first humanoid robot in an effort to lead Artificial intelligence (AI) study in the continent. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who inaugurated Omeife said the world is living in an exciting time of advanced technological advancement and Nigeria is proud to take the lead in Africa. The robot which was developed by the Uniccon Group looks exactly like the quintessential African teenage female with the near competency in language, movement, navigation, and behavioral intelligence and computer vision capabilities.

A civil society group, Future Pathways Development Initiative (FPDI) has launched an app to tackle sentimental voting during elections in Nigeria. The group said its intention was to ensure a free and fair elections in Nigeria through voter education. The Executive Director of the group, Mr Ayokunnu Ojeniyi, said this at the inauguration of the App in Abuja on Friday. The group noted that Nigerians often vote along party lines or along political figures instead of candidates’ capacity to delivery democratic dividends. He stated that the app is designed to educate Nigerian voters about their candidates ahead of the 2023 elections. The web application ‘www.knowyourcandidate.ng’, contains the right information about every political candidate to help Nigerians make informed decision about candidate based on issues and not socio-political sentiment.

The Labour Party(LP) has advised political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns instead of personality smearing campaigns. The LP vice-presidential candidate, Mr Datti Baba-Ahmed, cautioned political parties against defaming other political parties or candidates to score cheap political points. The LP leader said this on Friday night during a news conference on the state of the nation in Abuja. Recall that major political parties had signed a ‘peace accord’ to respect one another during the election campaigns. Meanwhile, the LP VP candidate says slamming or defaming others is a breach of the peace accord. He reiterated that the Labour Party will continue to respect the peace accord by focusing on issues-based campaigns rather than smear or defame any political party or candidate.
