The All Progressive Congress (APC) has warned Nigerians not to fall for the empty promises of the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Recall that on Saturday, Atiku promised to provide all Abuja indigenes with their entitlements and appointments if elected president in Feb. 2023. Atiku said this at the PDP presidential rally in Abuja. However, the Director of Media and Publicity for the APC, Bayo Onanuga, debunked Atiku’s proposed development plan and said that Atiku is striving too hard to deceive the people with empty promises. Ononuga said, “We need to warn Nigerians to be wary of the sugar-coated promises of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and his Peoples Democratic Party as they embark on their inordinate and desperate campaign to gain power at all cost…spewing a series of lies, making empty promises, and presenting a false narrative about our present reality and the legacy of the 16-year ignoble era of the PDP administration, of which he was a principal actor.”

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has denied the existence of Sambisa Forest. Atiku said this while fielding questions at the People’s Town Hall 2023 series aired on Channels TV on Sunday. The former vice president maintained that from his deep knowledge of Borno State, he doesn’t believe there is a forest deep enough to hide the Boko Haram terrorists. He further argued that despite the enormous resources spent on fighting Boko Haram, they persist in the North East and insist that only the right leadership can stop the insurgency. Atiku said, “I cannot understand the Boko Haram phenomenon… the solution is leadership, strong leadership to deal with all these interest groups within the military and outside the military.”

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential aspirant of the Labour Party, has decried the poor state of the University of Ibadan. Obi made this call while on a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun, on Saturday. He regretted that the famous University of Ibadan which attracted students from all over the world has now become a shadow of its former self. He further reiterates his commitment to revitalizing the education sector and bringing it to par with world standards. He said, “In the past, people came from all over the nation and outside Nigeria to seek quality university education in the famous citadel of learning, the University of Ibadan. Today, the university, regrettably, is now a shadow of its old self.”

The timber section of Onitsha Main Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, has been gutted by fire. This comes barely a month after the Kano section of the same market was gutted by fire as well. Goods worth millions were said to have been destroyed in the inferno. The Chairman of Bridgehead Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, Chinedu Ezekwike, who spoke to journalists on Sunday, said the fire started in one of the shops and rapidly spread to others due to the combustible materials, including machines and equipment of different types. He also added that traders in the market battled to control the inferno before the arrival of men from the state fire service. Meanwhile, the state Chief Fire Officer, Martin Agbili, noted that no life was lost.
