Mrs Victoria Chimtex, LP women leader, Kaduna, was shot dead by unknown gunmen

The Kaduna Chapter of the Labour Party has issued a statement condemning the murder of its women leader, Mrs Victoria Chimtex, by unknown gunmen.

Mrs Chimtex, a known party chieftain, was murdered in her home in Kaura, Kaduna, by unidentified gunmen.

The reports also stated that her husband was shot on the leg but survived as he was rushed to the nearest hospital where he is now receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has condemned the killing on Tuesday, calling it brutal and cowardly.

The statement issued on Tuesday by LP’s publicity secretary, Edward Buju, of the Southern Kaduna senatorial zone, reads, “The Southern Kaduna, Zone 3, Labour Party family, the Chairman and excos of Kaura Local Government Area (LGA) LP condemns in very strong terms the brutal and cowardly assassination of our mother and sister, Mrs Victoria Chimtex, Woman Leader, Kaura LGA LP. The sad event took place this morning when some unknown gunmen broke into her family resident in Manchok, Kaura LGA and shot her severally.

“Her husband was brutality shot in the leg and he is currently in an undisclosed hospital. The killers did not take any valuables in the house, suggesting assassination as the only mission of the wicked actors.

“Mrs Chimtex was known for her ability to relate well with people, an endowment she used in bringing hundreds of resourceful new entrants into the Labour Party in Kaura LGA.

“She was known for her relentless campaign for the ‘OBIdient’ cause and she made a lot of converts.

“It saddens our hearts that such an industrious, hardworking and dedicated women leader was killed when the family of Labour Party from the local government, zonal and the state needed her the most at this critical time that Nigerians are in quest for a new Nigeria through the Labour Party.”

“The zonal leadership of the Labour Party in Zone 3, is bereaved at this moment. We are calling on all the members of Labour Party from each polling unit, ward, local government, zonal, state and the national levels to pray along with us at this critical time.

“Her killing will indeed remain sad in our hearts forever, but it shall not break our spirit or intimidate us from pursuing the election of the Labour Party into all elective offices in 2023, because we truly believe that a new Nigeria is possible under the leadership of Peter Obi as president of Nigeria.

“Mrs Chimtex was a dedicated and committed mother of six children and also adopted three children making her have nine children under her care. They do not have a mother now, with a father battling for his life.

“As we await her burial plans by the family, the zone 3 Labour Party will make itself available and render her support to the family of our slain member whose time was cut short.

“We deeply sympathise with the people of Kaura Local Government, Labour Party and the entire family she left behind.”

However, Labour Party supporters have taken to social media to vent their anger and frustration over the development. Some lamented that the trend is worrisome and called on the authorities to do the needful and secure the lives and properties of citizen irrespective of political sentiments.

A netizen, @NeckSqueezer wrote, “Mehn, this is a hard one…. Oh my God if this is true, then they have just drawn the battle line. Our Northern brothers please join us to fight the common enemy so we can stop this bloodshed and make our country move forward.

Another netizen, @ZariyiYusufu, commented, “May her gentle soul rest in peace. To me I know things like this we be happening to my people because of the bold step we are taking, many Nigerians will not like it especially my people from the north. We shouldn’t be afraid this the sign of a new Nigeria is coming to stay.”
