Kabiru Adamu blames extreme poverty in the north on selfish leaders
Kabiru Adamu is member representing Gusau, Tsafe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He is not happy with the level of poverty in the north. He is very angry and blames the selfishness of northern leaders for it.
In an interview with Daily Post, Kabiru Adamu maintains that no society can progress with Northern leaders’ attitude, advising that the north must change its attitude if it must make any meaningful progress.
He regretted that most people in the North solely depend on the government to do everything for them, while noting that this level of dependency on the government remains one of the factors delaying the progress of the region.
Adamu accused leaders and elders in the north of leaving the youths in total penury.

“I am not happy seeing our youths being wasted even when there are enough rich people in the society. That is the main reason southerners continue to claim that northerners are very lazy set of people in the country”, he said.
“No society can definitely progress with such kind of attitude being operated in the North. I am, therefore, calling on the northern elders to change their mindsets for a positive change.

“There is no doubt in saying that the northern region of the country remains the poorest. The elders know this very clearly but have refused to take drastic action in addressing the ugly trend.”

This is not the first a prominent northern leader is lamenting the extreme poverty in the north.
In February 2019, the then Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II warned that the North would destroy itself if it fails to address the challenges of poverty, millions of out-of-school children, malnutrition, a drug problem and Boko Haram insurgency.
The monarch said no present leader of the North could afford to be happy in the face of the multitude of challenges confronting the region, hence the need to reverse the trend.
