The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Tuesday released the names of the candidates contesting in the governorship election in Edo State slated for September 19.
This was made known in a statement issued out to the public by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee for INEC, Festus Okoye.
Okoye noted in the provisional lists given that 14 governorship candidates representing their political parties will be contesting, including 13 males and 1 female.

He disclosed that, “At the close of nominations at 6PM on June 29, 2020, 14 political parties used the dedicated online portal of the Commission to submit the list of candidates that emerged from the primaries.
“The provisional list of the candidates disaggregated on the basis of name, gender, age and qualification has been uploaded on our website and social media platforms. Furthermore, and as required by the law, the particulars of the nominated candidates will be published in Edo State office of the Commission and simultaneously uploaded on our website on Thursday, July 2, 2020.
“The final list of duly nominated candidates will be published on August 13, 2020 after withdrawals by candidates and substitution by their political parties.”

He admonished voters to examine the nomination forms, affidavits and documents as submitted by the political parties on behalf of their candidates. He also urged that the public to file a legal suit against any falsehood detected in the information of the candidates.
