…President Buhari approves the extension of eased COVID-19 lockdown by a month
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the second phase of the easing of lockdown for the next four weeks.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha revealed this during the Task Force briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
This extension is the third for the second phase of lockdown presently observed across the country. The task force had updated the President on Wednesday on the progress recorded in the struggle to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and keeping citizens safe from contracting the virus.
Boss Mustapha while briefing the media on Thursday said that the PTF made some recommendations to the President and the extension of the current ease of lockdown was one of the suggestions ratified.

The PTF chairman further disclosed that to sustain gains already made in the last few weeks, the task force recommended to President Buhari to maintain the existing phase of the reaction, with minor modifications to address economic, socio-political, and health issues.
According to the SGF, the major deviations being suggested are directed at realising the steady re-opening of international flight operations within established restrictions, re-opening of rail transportation within recognised parameters, and the permitting the exit classes to recommence schools ahead of examinations.
He, however, reemphasised the necessity for all and sundry to assume responsibility of containing the virus, and stop the stigmatization of persons who are infested, been treated, and have been certified negative for COVID-19.
