ESN denies involvement in the attack on Hope Uzondinma’s house
Barely 48 hours after the death of the commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), Commander Ikonso, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have disclosed that the faction of the group has gotten a new commander.
Recall that, the joint security team of the Nigeria armed forces on Saturday revealed that it raided the operational headquarters of the ESN in Awomama, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state killing commander Ikonso and six other members of the group.
The development was announced by IPOB secretary, Emma Powerful when he appeared on Channels Tv Sunday politics.
Powerful however declined to make the name of the new commander known to the public
He also denied ESN’s involvement in the attack carried out on Hope Uzodinma’s house.
“ESN is not the ones that attacked Uzodinma’s house. They cannot come for an operation and tell you they are ESN. When asked to explain the group’s operational activities, he opined: We pursue Fulani herdsmen from the region”.
Again when asked to comment on the newly instituted security outfit by the southeast Governors, ‘Ebubeagu’, Emma Powerful said: “They are ghost security outfit. There is no group like Ebubeagu”
Meanwhile, the Biafra Nations League (BNL) has threatened fire and brimstone on the Nigerian Army, if it repeats the same attack that killed their leader Ikonso on Saturday.
BNL dared the army and other security agencies to launch similar operations against its members in the Bakassi Peninsula.
It said the Nigerian security operatives will “face consuming fire.”
Chief Head of Operations of BNL, Henry Edet, in a statement on Monday in reaction to the killing of the ESN commander and six others, said that “the Nigeria Securities will see something different if they touch any officer of the of the BNL especially in Bakassi Peninsula.”
BNL said it condemned the actions of the military, adding that “the situation in the entire Eastern Region will worsen.”
The group, however, said that they “won’t attack securities unless they attack us”, adding that “members of [our] Militia wing already signed their death warrant and are not afraid of attacks from security agencies.”
