…Ize-Iyamu has been meeting leaders of the APC ahead of the flag-off of the governorship campaign in Edo State on Saturday.
There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu are meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for ahead of the flag-off of the party’s governorship campaign in Benin City, Edo State.
He was also reported to have had consultations with the National Campaign Council for the Edo State Governorship Election in Abuja on Monday night, August 3.
It is expected according to report that APC leaders including the National Leader, Bola Tinubu; the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; members of the National Assembly; all governors elected under the aegis of party and other stalwarts are to flag-off of the party’s governorship campaign in Edo state on Saturday, August 8.
However, the source reported that President Buhari will not be at the rally as a result of the COVID-19 protocol, but will be represented by a top government official.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will not be at the rally. You know he has drastically reduced his public functions in the past few months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But he will be represented by a senior government official. And the president has also invited Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for a meeting ahead of the scheduled rally,’’ the source revealed.
The gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 19, 2020 has been a two-horse race between the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governor Godwin Obaseki and the APC Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as both candidates, their parties and supporters have been exchanging words laden with bitter rivalry.
Governor Obaseki defected to the PDP when the APC disqualified him ahead of the primary election claiming discrepancies in certificates and names.
