…Lives lost at Ebonyi state as residents fight over land
Amata, Ishiagu community of Ebonyi State and Lokpanta community in Abia state have resumed clashes over a disputed piece of land.
The clash resulted in the death of 2 people from the Amata community. The land lies at the border of these two communities.
Reports say the clash happened on Saturday, 30th of May, 2020. The farmers of the Amata community were suddenly attacked while working on their farms.
Although it is not yet clear yet which community first started this fight, there are suspicions that it might have been the indigenes of Lokpanta community.
As at the time of filing this report, police officers from Amata, Ivo division have taken control of the situation and peace is being restored. The abducted people from Amata have been rescued and normalcy is being returned to the two communities.
The police spokesperson in Ebonyi state, Loveth Odah has assured residents that the land dispute shall be resolved once the new commissioner assumes duty on the 1st of June (today).
The intervention of the National Boundary Commission (NBC) is also being sought.
