Ebi Atawodi was pioneer GM, Uber West Africa
Former General Manager of Uber West Africa, Ebi Atawodi has joined video-on-demand giant, Netflix as Director of Payments, bringing her over 6-year sojourn at Uber to a ceremonious end.
Atawodi will spearhead the streaming company’s payment unit for Europe, Middle East & Africa, continuing her Uber trajectory where she headed a similar role for more than four years.
Announcing the move in a LinkedIn post on Friday, Atawodi expressed gratitude for being part of the Uber journey to transform mobility in cities across the world.
“Over six years ago, when I started my Uber ride, little did I know that I’d be part of a mission that changed the very fabric of how cities moved forever. I learnt the power of tenacity – launching and scaling Uber in West Africa, and then I was humbled by the power of payments – unlocking that Uber magic for millions of customers all over the world. It has been one helluvah ride of a lifetime, which has finally come to end. I am honoured and so thankful to everyone who rode this rollercoaster with me,” she said.

Although Atawodi had been in the Netherlands leading the Products and Payments team for Uber over the past four years, her role in deepening Uber’s footprint across West Africa remains indelible. As General Manager of Uber West Africa, Atawodi “grew the business from 15 cars on day one to a top 20 market in the EMEA region”.
However, she has always been part of pioneering initiatives. For instance, as Head of Sponsorships and Corporate Communications at Etisalat Nigeria, now 9mobile, she created the Etisalat Prize for Literature, which went on to become Africa’s most prestigious literary prize.

She will be bringing the same energy to Netflix, pioneering deeper penetration of the streaming giant’s services across the region.
