Buhari mourns slain police officers
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday evening eventually broke his deafening silence by addressing the nation via live television broadcast but shockingly remained quite on several issues about the police brutality that triggered the protest.
Most shockingly, the president remained quite on the killings of unarmed peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
The President said the #EndSARS protesters took the government’s acceptance of their demands as a sign of weakness and allowed themselves to be used by unpatriotic elements.
While appealing everyone to exercise restraints, he went to reel out all initiatives by his government to address unemployment and to cushion the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.

He also condoled the families of police officers who have been killed during the protest.
He said there was already a directive for the Salaries and Wages Commission to implement salary increase for police officers across the country.
Many Nigerians would be disappointed as they had expected the President to speak on the Lekki toll gate shooting, and answer questions of who ordered it and if investigation would be opened on the incident.
