You can invest in Nigeria to secure premium returns

To enjoy a comfortable future, investing is absolutely essential for most people. Investing can provide you with a great opportunity to secure your future, help fund your retirement or even get you out of any unprecedented financial misfortune.

Above all, investing helps you grow your wealth, allowing your financial goals to be met and increasing your purchasing power over time.

As ideal and indispensable as investment could be, most people shy away from it either becasue they believe they don’t have enough or are scared of potential loss.

This is why once you have made up your mind to invest, it is imperative that you read a lot about what you want to go into and also seek the advice from an investment advisory.

Going into investment is really a risky game. It is not advisable to go into without a fair idea of how it works. This will help to mitigate the risks involved with all types of investment.

With the rising inflation and growing pressure on the local currency, the Naira, it is not advisable to rely on savings anymore. Also, with job security in Nigeria almost a mirage, investing is a great source of earning much-needed extra income. A wise investment made may be enough to fall back on if anything goes wrong in the future.

There abound various investment opportunities in Nigeria, depending on your level of knowledge and risk appetite, but this article seeks to highlight just 4 of them.

They include:

  1. REAL ESTATE

Real estate investing all has to do with investing in property – land, houses, etc. It remains one of the most profitable investment opportunities, especially to Nigerian investors. Unfortunately, this investment does require some substantial capital.

Though some organisation has made it easy for some investors whereby you can pay by instalment until you are able to pay the complete sum. Gone are those days you have to wait to have bulk money to be able to acquire a land or own a house.  All that is been needed is to choose the best investment plan that works for you.

Nigerian investors who are interested in this option, but do not have large sums of capital to invest, can work on discovering other investment opportunities to build up their capital until they are able to enter into this investment opportunity.

Nigerian investors do not need to seek opportunities abroad when wanting to invest in real estate as there are ample opportunities in Nigeria as it is a developing country with a lot of potential in real estate.

2. INVESTING IN GOLD

Globally, gold is considered a symbol of power and affluence. There are a lot of professionals that say that investing in gold is one of the best investments in Nigeria. Investing in this precious metal may open various doors for Nigerian investors to make a substantial amount of money as the value of gold never falls as it has significant importance attached to it.

The value of gold is inevitably set to increase over time and investing early may very well solidify long term wealth for Nigerian investors. Investing in gold is not a straightforward procedure and Nigerian investors must learn the intricacies – measurement, weight, value, etc, along with learning the difference between real gold and counterfeit.

With less than N300,000, an individual can invest in gold. The value of gold depreciates only slowly because of the incredible importance attached to it. It is seen as a symbol of affluence, therefore the high and mighty desire its possession.

There are different techniques for investing in gold. An investor can invest in Nigeria by purchasing gold jewellery in Northern cities like Kano, Abuja or even in a Western city like Lagos. An investor can also purchase gold plated items like a phone, cooking utensils etc. and resell at a higher value. Various gold commodities that can be purchased include bars and coin, etc.

3. INVESTING IN AGRICULTURE

Agriculture is one of the most lucrative sectors in Nigeria with potential for so much more as the country further develops. The agriculture sector is mainly driven by the Nigerian government in order to diversify the economy. Due to this, Nigeria’s agriculture sector is greatly attractive to investors from within and from outside of Nigeria.

Food tops the list of man’s countless needs. The food industry has created many millionaires and billionaires in Nigeria.

There are several ways you can invest in Nigeria Agriculture especially through the crowdfunding opportunities provided by Agrictech startups such as Farm Crowdy, ThriveAgric, PiggyVest, etc. Through this option, you can invest as little as N5,000 for a unit of farm and earn as much as 18 per cent per annum.

4. MONEY/STOCK MARKET INVESTING

The money market and the capital market are not single institutions but two broad components of the global financial system. The money market is the trade-in short-term debt. It is a constant flow of cash between governments, corporations, banks, and financial institutions, borrowing and lending for a term as short as overnight and no longer than a year.

To invest in Nigeria, such money market opportunities include treasury bills and mutual funds which you can subscribe to over the counter in a local branch of your bank.

The capital market encompasses trade in both stocks and bonds. These are long-term assets bought by financial institutions, professional brokers, and individual investors. Together, the money market and the capital market comprise a large portion of what is known as the financial market
