Buhari came into office May 29, 2015
Today, May 29 will make it 5 years since President Buhari came into office as Nigeria’s President. Nigeria Today’s correspondent Biodun Busari went to the streets of Lagos to hear Nigerians speak on his performance over the past half a decade.
JOHN OGUNDELE, 56, TRICYCLE RIDER
There is no good performance from President Muhammadu Buhari. No jobs for graduates. There are graduates in this country riding keke, driving danfo. So, tell the president to improve if he can in the next three years, but I doubt it. Look at me now, I was with NUPENG before, but lost my job in 2017 under this administration. I am now riding keke. He should provide jobs so there will be money.
UCHE MARTINS, 33, GRADUATE
I think there are two aspects that record improvement in his administration – agriculture and railway. Every other sector is F9. No jobs, no light, no roads. I think he has failed woefully in major sectors of the economy. If he can use the next three years to improve, fine.
JACK BENJAMIN, 27, AIRTIME VENDOR
Buhari has done well in agriculture, but other things are a failure. Before he assumed office in 2015, he was promising heaven and earth but now we have seen for ourselves. There are have been terrible terrorist acts and these herdsmen killings. Also, corruption has deepened in his time. He can perform better if he wants to.
FAVOUR JOHN, 29, FOOD SELLER
As for me, I cannot see what he is doing o. There is nothing, nothing. Prices of things don go up. If you go to the market to buy something of N10 today and go tomorrow, it will be N20. There is no good road, no light. If he can improve in the next three years.
ADAMU MUSA, 48, MONEY CHANGER
President has done well well. He arrests people that are stealing money. But prices of things in the market have gone up. He needs to help us with that.
TOPE MAKINDE, 62, FRUIT SELLER
As you can see, I sell fruits. The only problems are bad transport to carry our fruits from farm and market. Prices of transport are high. No improvement.
JIDE KAMORU, 45, BUS DRIVER
In this administration, roads are worse and affect us negatively. There are no jobs for graduates to do. Prices of commodities in the market have gone up. We cannot vote for APC again.
MRS BISI BABAJIDE, 32, HAIRDRESSER AND MAKE-UP ARTIST
Light is affecting my business, and I think this is a general challenge. If there is constant power supply, businesses will move, and the economy will be fine. I use generator most times, and you know what that means. It is not encouraging at all.
MRS. BIOLA SAMSON, 24, STUDENT
There are no jobs, no money. Money is not circulating in the economy. There is infrastructural decay. People are losing their jobs. We need mostly infrastructures to help people in their business. When Buhari’s government provides this, then we can give him kudos.
JUDE KENNETH, 37, PHONE SELLER
The whole economy is in shambles. As far as I am concerned, the president has not performed well in office. He needs to up his game.
