Young man attempts suicide in Lagos

If you live in Lagos and you have ever wondered what operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps do, this story is for you.

It was around 8.30 am on Tuesday, January 7 when an officer of Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Corps, alerted Ejigbo Police Station about an emergency situation.

He said that a young man about 21 years old named Obasi Augustine Chuckuemeka, of No 4, Alaba Street, Ejigbo had tied a rope in a loop around their living room ceiling fan in preparation for committing suicide.

The student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu campus, decided to die because he was scolded by his parents.

Swift response by operatives from Ejigbo Police Station, however, prevented him from killing himself.

He was rescued and taken to hospital for medical examination.

Could there be more to the story? Or this is just another case of tough parenting?

Indeed, young Augustine must undergo a comprehensive mental examination as the police investigation continues.
